Before I start posting recipes for healthy and yummy dog treats you may be left wondering what foods will I be able to actually give my dog? Although the list isn't quite as long as the foods you shouldn't feed your dog, there are still foods out there that you can give your pup.
Fruits including apples, oranges, bananas and watermelon. As with anything moderation is key but these fruits include many nutrients that are good for your dogs.
Lean meats. Feel free to cook your pups some lean chicken to help ease an upset stomach.
Carrots, green beans, cucumbers, zucchini and even plain baked potato are all ok for your dog.
Plain cooked white rice and pasta also will not upset your dogs stomach.
Using rice flour instead of unbleached or wheat flour will be easier for your dog to digest.
Pumpkin is an amazing ingredient for your dogs digestive system. Most of my baking will include a form of pumpkin since dogs love the taste and it is so beneficial.

Safe Foods For Your Dog
Lets start this blog out with probably the most important post I could possibly write. What foods are ok to feed your dogs? You must always keep in mind foods that are healthy and ok for you to eat are not going to always be ok for your dogs. If you want the best for your dog(s) then stay away from the foods listed below. It's always tempting to feed our dogs what we are eating, especially with those eyes staring right at you as you're putting food into your mouth, but there are many other alternatives for delicious treats to fill your puppies bellies. Here is a list of foods that always should be off limits to your little friends.
Avocados: they contain persin, which in large amounts are toxic to dogs. Make sure if you grow your own avocados to keep dogs away from the leaves and bark as persin can make its way into both.
Alcohol: now this should be obvious but there are people out there who may be tempted to see how funny it would be to have an intoxicated pup. The effects of alcohol can lead to liver failure in humans as it can in dogs. The difference is that it can only take a small amount to do so in your pup. So keep your friend away from alcohol.
Onions and garlic: In any type of form from powder to raw these two items destroy red blood cells in dogs leading to anemia.
Any form of caffeine: but you should already know this.
Grapes and raisins: scientists don't know exactly why but this fruit is known to poison dogs as well as cause kidney failure.
Dairy products: yes even cheese. Dairy is the main culprit when it comes to food allergies in dogs. It is also known to cause severe digestive problems.
Macadamia nuts: should never be given to dogs. They are fatal.
Xylitol: candy, gum, toothpaste and some diet foods all contain this ingredient. It can cause your pup to have seizures and raise insulin levels.
Chocolate: ok we have all heard this at one time or another but why is this so bad for dogs? Chocolate contains a toxic ingredient to dogs known as theobromine. It is even found in white chocolate.
Fat trimmings and bones: Most of you who cook any sort of meat have probably at one time or another thought it was ok to feed your dog a bone or maybe a fat trimming. Fat trimmings from both cooked and uncooked meats can cause pancreatitis in dogs. Bones from meat might look sturdy enough to withstand your dogs teeth but even the slightest splinter off of an animal bone can cause lacerations in the stomach and digestive system which would lead to many future problems.
Peaches and Plums: I bet most of you didn't know that the pits contain cyanide which obviously would be deadly to your dog. As well as causing inflammation in the small intestine.
Salt: Stay away from sharing salty foods with your dog. It can lead to sodium ion poisoning.
Sugar: Sugar makes us fat, causes severe obesity and other heath problems. It does the same to dogs.
Raw meat and fish: if you would not eat raw meat, then don't give it to your dog for the same reasons.
Yeast dough: if you happen to be making dough with yeast do not give any of that to your dog. Yeast grows and will continue to do that inside of your dog which can stretch the abdomen.
Baking powder and baking soda: I know if you are making your own dog treats you might come up with or find a recipe that includes one of these ingredients. DO NOT USE THEM! They are both highly toxic to dogs. Same with certain spices.
If I haven't listed an ingredient here that you are wondering about you can always send me an email or comment on this post. Do your research first before giving your dogs something you aren't sure about.
